2nd Quarter note April 2011

2nd  Quarter Note 2011

“As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here.” ---Mark 16:5-6

How Wonderful the Resurrection

By Josepha Murray Emms

Suppose there were no Resurrection,

That Christ remained within the tomb,

That human hopes and dreams were fables

Born to fade like ocean spume.

That day would lose its lusty freshness,

The perfumed flowers pale and die,

Gay summer move in frightened zigzags

With clouds across a moody sky.

The world would seem a dreary desert,

Hope flounder in the human heart,

And words would hold no lilting cadence

With love no longer to impart.

But Easter opened wide a doorway,

The Master breathed the morning air;

White lilies now proclaim his victory,

And love and joy are everywhere.

How wonderful the Resurrection!

The promise of another spring,

In spite of life’s chaotic struggle,

The soul can know full blossoming.

In all the struggles of our chaotic world, take hope, find joy. Jesus did rise from the dead and has conquered sin and death for you and for me! It is out of God’s love for us, that this is so.

As we enter Spring, a time of renewal and rebirth: take heart, grab hold of joy and let it fill your life. Life is tough, but the promise of the resurrection is that life is but a stepping stone to eternal joy with Jesus Christ.

Meditate quietly on the God who provides the spring rains splashing on your window. Call a friend and share your faith. Write a note of encouragement to someone who is struggling. Take a walk and see the beauty that our God has created. Watch for laughing children playing in the puddles. Breathe deeply of the fresh air of Spring and get ready to lift your face to the warm sun of summer.

There is no need for sadness: our God provides the seasons and the life!! May God bless you, inspire you, and give you peace.

The Life Light

The Word was first,

the Word present to God

God present to the Word

The word was God

in readiness for God from day one

Everything was created through him:

nothing—not one thing!—

came into being without him.

What came into existence was Life,

and the Life was Light to live by.

The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness;

the darkness couldn’t put it out.

 John 1:1-5 The Message

During the winter the sky is gray, the daylight hours are short, and the sun does not often shine through the snow clouds. Some people even suffer from something called Seasonal Affected Disorder, where they suffer the blues because of the lack of sunlight. A few people even get a bit grumpy. If you are one of these people, I’ve got a little pastoral advice for you.

When the sun doesn’t shine outdoors, spend more time with the Son indoors

There is nothing sad or dreary about the Son of God, Jesus Christ. His birth was miraculous, His life was full of healings and teachings and miracles. His death was for one reason; so that you and I do not have to die eternal death, but because we believe will receive eternal life; and his resurrection was the greatest thing the world will ever see until he comes again.

If you don’t have a Bible reading plan, begin in the Gospel of John and read about the Life-Light come into the world. Spend time in prayer in the warmth of Jesus’ presence and time in the Word and you won’t even notice that another foot of snow has fallen outside of your window!!

May the warmth of the love of God surround you and fill you to overflowing, so that you share that warm love with the people God puts into your life.

Serving God with JOY,

Pastor Rosemary
